Woof-a-Thon seeks volunteers for new North Bay venue Wilma Spike had walked with her pet in the Tacoma Dog-a-Thon for over 13 years and always marveled at how the event raised thousands of dollars for charity. Now she’s transplanted that passion here in Ocean Shores as the North Jetty-area resident prepares for the second annual Woof-a-Thon, this year in North Bay Park on Aug. 10. “I had done it since almost the beginning of the Dog-a-Thon,” Spike said last week. “So I knew it worked. I didn’t re-invent the wheel. I thought, ‘Wow, why couldn’t we do this in Ocean Shores.’” .... Read rest of the article at: http://northcoastnews.com/livinglifestyles/woof-thon-seeks-volunteers-new-north-bay-venue.html I am only 4 months old and I want to do a Woof-Out for the great day I had at PAWS' first annual WOOF-A-THON at Chinook Park on Saturday. I met so many new friends- at least a hundred. They were all so friendly to me, and their owners were too. Right at the start I met my own vet Stacey Steele at the O.S. Animal Hospital (who gave me a treat) and both she and the Raintree Veterinary Center in Hoquiam said I was gorgeous!! And healthy! I also got a cool frisbee from the Hoquiam guys which I used for some needed water - also donated... by good ol' IGA. And there were so many more treats! Given out at every stall, some new tasty ones from Kool Kats and Dawgs, and from Dennis and Co. Later Saturday evening I couldn't stop playing with my new toys, Penny Hale said they were donated by her place - Pet Smart in Lacey. Cool place, I've been there! Best of all I got to participate in my first ever Contest- I got Third Place for Longest Ears (they even included the little big of hair hanging down!) and then drum roll please... I got FIRST PLACE for Fluffiest Dog, just barely beating out a couple of tiny Lap Fluffballs. Here I am with my Trophy. I got another toy as well. Great Dane - I mean great day! Can't wait till next one! Holly Dolly Van Dalen, aged 4 months PS: I really woud like to thank my very own family... my dad and my ma-Pete and Nonni Van Dalen for bringing me today, and for the shampoo and blow dry this morning. Woof to all you out there! Dog Days of Summer
Circle Saturday, August 10 now and plan to attend the annual Woof-A-Thon. This event will be held at North Bay Park in Ocean Shores. Tons of fun activities are planned for the whole family, especially those four-legged members. Many of the activities enjoyed by last year's participants are coming back. The Pledge Walk is a winner where you can take pledges and walk your pooch. A Costume Contest is a time where you and your pet can get creative and there will also be a Raffle to win some great prizes. All of this is happening to raise money for charitable organizations within Grays Harbor who focus on the care and well being of dogs and cats. Applications are currently being accepted by the Woof-A-Thon non-profit organization. To become a participant this year, download the donation form and start collecting donations. Remember all of this is for those furry friends. To put on an event like this it takes many volunteers. If you would like to help, call Sallie Roth at 406-544-3339 (local). Last year there were vendors and this year that is planned as well. To find out more information about becoming a vendor or a sponsor, check out the website: www.oceanshoreswoofathon.org. To be a vendor, your booth and wares need to be pet or animal related. If you don't have access to a computer and would like to have an application, call Wilma Spike at 360-289-2553. North Bay Park is located at the corner of Albatross and Chance ala Mer, across from the airport. ---------------------------- A Garage Sale to benefit this year's Woof-A-Thon will be held at 437 Mount Olympus Ave. SE, Ocean Shores. Donations will be gladly accepted, but please no clothing. To donate call Sallie Ross at 406-544-3339 (local). The sale will be Memorial Day Weekend from 10 - 3. |
